Actions to help save sea turtles

  1. Choose seafood carefully – before ordering, find out where the seafood comes from, how it is harvested, and if that type of fishery is well managed for population sustainability.
  2. Say no to single-use plastics – choose reusable alternatives or avoid the item if possible, and keep the Rs in mind – Refuse, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle properly, and ask companies to Redesign products/packaging to be eco-friendly.
  3. Reduce your carbon footprint to help slow climate change. The changing of the climate may be happening too fast for turtles to adapt. We can give them the best chance possible by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions to slow the rate of change.
  4. Turn off the lights. If you are in a house by a beach where sea turtles nest during summer, turn off all outside lights and close the blinds so that your lights don’t confuse hatching sea turtles as they try to make it into the ocean.
